IWalked New York City’s Café Bizarre

A former café known as Café Bizarre once resided here at 106 W 3rd Street (where this market now operates). Café Bizarre was famous for claiming to be the first coffeehouse whose sole purpose was a haven for musicians to play music. It opened in 1957 and was described as a long narrow building with dirty sawdust floors. The musicians didn’t mind though and neither did Andy Warhol. For it was at Café Bizarre where he discovered The Velvet Underground, a band which he would go on to manage.
